On foot in the old town
Kalkan's old quarter is built on a steep hillside above the harbour, so most of it is stepped, cobbled lanes rather than flat streets — beautiful to wander, but not stroller- or wheelchair-friendly in places, and worth factoring in if that affects your group.
By dolmuş (shared minibus)
Dolmuş routes start at the otogar, the small bus station above town, and run along Şehitler Caddesi — you can flag one down in town too, near the upper roundabout.
- Southbound to Kaş, about 30 minutes, stopping at Kaputaş Beach roughly 10 minutes in.
- Northbound to Patara, via Akbel, Yeşilköy and Gelemiş.
- Tickets are inexpensive and frequent through the season.
By water taxi
Several of the bay's beach clubs sit on coves with limited road access, so a fleet of water taxis connects them to the harbour in season — one of the more distinctive ways to get around here.
Renting a car or scooter
Worth it if Xanthos, Letoon, Patara or the Bezirgan plateau are on your list — dolmuş schedules won't always match a full day out, and a car gives you the mountain roads on your own time.
